Miswak

Assalamualaikum! How are you guys doing?

So for today's update, i'd like to write about miswak. Basically, miswak is an arabic word which means tooth-cleaning stick. It is commonly made out of mustard tree. It has been used by the ancient arab and of course, our beloved prophet, Muhammad (peace be upon him). Prophet Muhammad was very keen on using them himself and encouraged his companions to do the same.

"Were it not for overburdening my Ummah, I would command them to use Siwak (miswak) at every prayer."

Miswak makes an excellent toothbrush as it promotes good oral health. Let me list out the benefits for you.

1. Miswaak strengthens the gums and prevents tooth decay.
2. Miswaak assists in eliminating toothaches and prevents further increase of decay which has already set in.
3. Miswaak creates a fragrance in the mouth.
4. Miswaak is a cure for illness.
5. Miswaak eliminates bad odors and improves the sense of taste.
6. Miswaak sharpens the memory.
7. Miswaak is a cure for headaches.
8. Miswaak creates lustre (noor) on the face of the one who continually uses it.
9. Miswaak causes the teeth to glow.
10. Miswaak strengthens the eyesight.
11. Miswaak assists in digestion.
12. Miswaak clears the voice.
13. The greatest benefit of using miswaak is gaining the pleasure of Allah.

There you go. As for Muslims, this only multiplies the benefit of using them. You’ll get the reward for following the Sunnah of our Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him), and you’ll get the health benefits as well.

I've been using miswak every second of the day because i have to admit, it is very addicting and it does whiten your teeth, on the spot! If you don't believe me, try it for yourself. I'm making this a habit. After waking up, before and after i eat, before i go to sleep, basically everytime of the day. And the reward of prayers is multiplied 70 times if Miswak was used before it.

You can also make this your habit. Bring miswak everywhere you go. To school, outing, travel, anywhere. It is very pratical for it is small in size and you can just stick em in your pocket, bags etc.

Let’s try to make this wonderful Sunnah a part of our daily lives, insha’Allah.
